MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush Review

Looking at the high price tag of the MAC 208 Brush and seeing the brush itself, I thought ‘but it’s so small!’ But then, I realized, that is precisely why it’s priced that way.

MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush ReviewFrom the MAC website:

Applies colour to the brow. Use to define or add “fill”. Its precise angled tip provides pro-style application. Synthetic / natural blend fibre. Use to apply powder, liquid or cream products.

The MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush will set you back PhP 1250 at local MAC stores. At first sight it looks pretty much like any regular liner or brow brush. But upon closer examination there were some things I found out.

One, it’s much smaller compared to my cheaper, drugstore brand angled brow brushes, like the Marionnaud N38 and Ecotools Brow Brush, which I thought were already small. Second, it has a more gradual slope, the angle of it isn’t as steep or high. Third, looking at it from above, it looks a lot finer and thinner.

The MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush is a long-handled brush, more than 7″ long in all. The length of the bristles is less than 1 cm. The handle is thin, and weighs nearly nothing. The hairs on the brush, from what I’ve read, is a mix of synthetic and animal hair. It does not have any smell, nor does it bleed nor shed.

MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush ReviewI’ll say it now—I’m very happy with the performance of this brush. Please don’t think that a brush automatically makes me happy when it’s from MAC or is expensive. If anything, I’m more critical and scrutinizing of it because it costs so much. I know how much you can buy here with PhP 1250 or P2k!

But really, the MAC 208 Brush just made some things so much easier for me. This is a multi-use brush and shouldn’t be limited to brow makeup application.

My favorite things to use it for are tightlining and lining the upper lash line. For tightlining, it fits right into that tiny space on the waterline on the upper lids. The hairs on the MAC 208 Brush, while soft and not prickly or rough, have enough stiffness to them that the bristles remain upright and don’t bend much to the sides. So it’s convenient for depositing pigment or drawing a fine line on small areas. It lets me get right to the very base of my lashes when lining my upper lash line. It’s also not flimsy, and remains that way even after several washings. So yeah, I love the 208 both for tightlining and lining my upper lashes (using wet, black powder eyeshadow or gel liner).

MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush ReviewAnother thing that the MAC 208 Brush has made easier for me is creating that little flick or wing at the end or outer corner of the lash line when lining the upper lids. When I do it freehand with liquid or pencil eyeliner it always looks…off. When I do that with the MAC 208 Brush, it looks right. Sweet.

As for shaping and filling in the brows, the MAC 208 Brush is convenient for that too. Though I must say, for that particular purpose I don’t reach for it exclusively like I do with the two mentioned above. Perhaps because I generally prefer a brow pencil since it’s quicker to use. But basically, it’s the size, the slowly increasing angle, and the soft yet stiff bristles that I think make the MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush work so well for these tasks.

Pros:

  • The small size of the bristles make it ideal for use on small areas like the lids and brows.
  • It feels soft and not in the least hard or prickly. Doesn’t irritate my eyes.
  • It’s stiff enough that the hairs don’t bend or feel flimsy.
  • It doesn’t stink, shed, or bleed.
  • The thin size of the handle and its almost being weightless make it very comfortable to use.
  • It can be used not just on the brows but parts of the eyes.
  • It can also be used on different types of product (gel liner, wet/dry shadow).
  • It retains its shape and quality after being washed several times.
  • It’s locally available at MAC stores.

Cons:

  • The price.

Overall:

A good tool to spend money on if you find yourself frustrated over lining, tighlining, or doing brow makeup. Some makeup brushes are truly worth the dough and really do make a huge difference to makeup application!
